Chapter 9: A Change of Hearts

The arrival of the first residents at the west wing brought new life to the estate. Children’s laughter echoed through the long corridors where cold silence had once reigned, and the gardens were filled with people learning vocational skills and tending to the earth.
Dominic found himself changed by the presence of the new community. The cold, distant aristocrat who had once locked himself away in his study was now regularly seen on the lawns, teaching young children how to fly kites or helping set up dining tables for evening community meals.
Clara watched this transformation with quiet pride. She saw how Dominic's heart, once hardened by grief and betrayal, had softened under the influence of purpose and service.
One evening, after the residents had retired to their rooms, Dominic and Clara sat together on the ocean balcony—the same balcony where, months prior, Clara had been bound in chains.
The heavy iron pillar was still there, but the chains were gone, replaced by climbing green ivy and small white blossoms winding up the stone.

"Do you ever think about that night?" Dominic asked softly, looking out at the dark horizon.
"I used to," Clara admitted, leaning back against her chair. "I used to feel the cold of the iron every time I walked out here. But now... when I look at this balcony, I don't see my chains anymore. I see the moment you stood in that doorway and chose the truth."
