Chapter 1: Echoes on the Balcony

The twilight breeze swept across the marble floor of the estate's sprawling balcony, carrying the cool scent of the tide below. Dominic stood in the doorway, his silhouette framed against the warm interior lighting. His dark suit absorbed the shadows, but his eyes were fixed on the silver chains binding Clara’s wrists to the stone column.

Victoria, her silk robe billowing around her, froze. The panic in her eyes was instant, replacing the malice that had dominated her face just moments before.

"Dominic! I can explain everything..." Victoria’s voice quavered, her hand clutching at the open lapels of her robe.

"You don't need to explain a thing," Dominic said quietly, his voice dangerously calm. He didn't look at Victoria; his gaze shifted to Clara.

Clara’s wrists were red where the steel links had rubbed against her skin. Tears glinted on her cheeks, catching the last fading rays of the sun, but her eyes held no defeat. She looked at Dominic—not as a servant looking at her employer, but as a woman who had endured months of silent torment to protect a secret that wasn't hers to carry.

"He knows the truth now," Clara whispered softly, her chest rising and falling with labored breaths.

Dominic took a slow, deliberate step toward Victoria. The space between them shrank, filled only by the sound of the ocean below. "Pack your things," he commanded, his tone leaving no room for negotiation. "And get off my property."

Victoria reached out, her fingers brushing against his sleeve, her tears falling freely now. "Please! Listen to me! She’s lying to you! She’s just a maid—"

"She was never just a maid, Victoria," Dominic interrupted, pulling his arm back with cold contempt. "And you were never the innocent woman I promised to protect."
