Chapter 15 - The Final Threshold

The chilling image on the phone screen flickered for a moment before the battery icon flashed red and the device went completely black.
Elena stared at the dead screen, her mind racing past the initial wave of shock. Clara was gone, but her shadow lingered like a ghost refusing to rest.
"She left it at the back gate less than five minutes ago," Marcus said, his voice tense as he shoved the phone back into his pocket and scanned the tree line bordering the estate. "Which means she had help on the inside. Someone on our legal team or the sheriff's department tipped her off before the federal lockdown."
Elena took a deep, steady breath, forcing the panic down into the pit of her stomach. She refused to be intimidated in her own home. She had survived Julian's betrayal, Arthur's corporate warfare, and the chaos of a ruined wedding night. She wasn't about to run now.
"Let her play her games," Elena said, her voice chillingly calm as she set her coffee cup down on the porch railing. "If Clara wants a war, she can come right up the front driveway and face me in the light. No more hiding behind fake contracts and corporate shell companies."
Marcus looked at her, a profound look of respect and admiration shining in his eyes. He realized then that Elena wasn't just a survivor—she was a force of nature that nothing could break.
"What do you want to do?" Marcus asked, stepping closer.
"We call the federal prosecutor," Elena replied, her eyes narrowing as she looked toward the distant horizon where the ocean met the sky. "We hand over the rest of the ledger, we audit every single account Clara touched, and we hunt her down until there is nowhere left for her to run."

As if responding to her command, the distant wail of a police cruiser siren echoed up the winding coastal road, signaling the arrival of the federal authorities and the beginning of a new chapter of justice.
Elena turned back toward the grand foyer of her home, stepping across the threshold with her head held high, completely barefoot and entirely unshakable. The wedding cake was gone, the groom was behind bars, and the false vows had burned into ash, but Elena stood stronger than ever before—ready to face whatever lay waiting in the shadows, because the dance floor of her life finally belonged to her alone.
