Chapter 9: The Real Value of Wealth**

Damian pulled a plastic chair close to the bed and held Sarah’s fragile, cold hand between both of his own. He pressed his forehead against her knuckles, letting the tears he had held back for a decade soak into the hospital sheets.
“I’m so sorry,” Damian wept quietly. “I built an empire of glass and forgot who gave me the foundation. I should have been here every single day.”
Sarah squeezed his hand with what little strength she had. “You’re here now, Damian. That’s what the card was for. Not to pull you back when you were soaring, but to remind you where the ground was when you were ready to land.”
Over the next four hours, the finest medical specialists in the country arrived at St. Jude’s via private transport. Dr. Mercer, having reviewed her charts on the flight over, entered Room 412 with renewed optimism.
“Her condition is severe, Mr. Vance, but it is treatable,” the specialist stated quietly in the corridor. “With the targeted immunotherapy we’ve prepared—and the quiet environment of a private recovery wing—her prognosis is very strong.”
Damian walked back into the room and sat beside Leo, who had fallen asleep curled at the foot of his mother’s bed.
