Chapter 13: The Secret in the Desk**

Later that evening, after the crowds had cleared, Damian and Leo went back up to the 40th-floor office. The city lights sparkled below them like a sea of stars.
Damian walked over to the heavy oak desk that had belonged to his predecessors. He pulled open the bottom drawer and lifted out a small wooden chest. Inside lay the original keycard Leo had carried into the building.
“Do you want to keep this, Leo?” Damian asked.
Leo walked over and picked it up. He turned it over in his hand, feeling the smooth matte texture. “No. I don't need it anymore.”
“Why not?” Damian asked curiously.
“Because the card was for when you were lost,” Leo said with simple wisdom. “Now you’re here. We don't need a key to find someone who’s standing right next to us.”
Damian pulled his son into his arms, burying his face in Leo’s shoulder. All the money, power, and prestige in the world could never buy the clarity that this eight-year-old boy possessed.
