Chapter 1: The Descent**

The marble lobby of the Grand Aurelia froze into dead silence. The woman in the burgundy suit, Julianne Vance, slowly lowered her crossed arms. Her polished smile fractured as the man stepped fully out of the golden elevator.
Julianne had spent her entire adult life clawing her way through corporate boards, convinced that power was defined by who you could lock out. Standing in her tailored suit and sharp heels, she had viewed the small boy in the faded denim jacket as an eyesore on her pristine floor. Now, the unmistakable sound of hurried footsteps echoed against the towering pillars.
Julianne turned, expecting security. Instead, she locked eyes with Damian Vance—the reclusive billionaire founder of the Aurelia Empire, a man who had not stepped onto the lobby floor in over three years.
Damian ignored the bows from the security detail and the whispers rippling through the concierge staff. His immaculate navy suit shifted as his pace broke into a stride. His gaze was locked entirely onto the boy standing near the VIP elevator bank.
Julianne stepped forward, smoothing her jacket. “Damian, thank goodness you came down. Security was just about to handle this stray kid. He claims he has access to—”
Damian walked straight past her, his shoulder brushing hers aside as if she were made of thin air.
He stopped two feet from the boy. The child looked up, clutching the matte black keycard with small, stubborn fingers. The boy’s hazel-brown eyes were steady, showing neither fear nor arrogance.
“Leo?” Damian’s voice broke, stripped of all corporate authority.
The boy tilted his head, studying the tired lines around the billionaire’s eyes. “You told mom you’d come back when the card turned black. She said the postman brought it yesterday.”

Damian dropped to his knees right onto the cold, polished marble, heedless of his custom trousers. The entire lobby gasped.
