Chapter 6 - The Ultimatum

The heavy silence in the grand hall stretched to a breaking point, thick with the palpable threat of violence. Marcus’s hand lingered near his concealed holster, his posture radiating lethal military efficiency. The high-society guests in the surrounding pews cowered behind one another, frantically whispering and filming the unfolding disaster on their glowing smartphones, completely forgetting the million-dollar wedding they had arrived to celebrate.
"You take one more step toward these children, Marcus, and you won't leave this room breathing," Julian said, his voice dropping into a register so chillingly calm that even the hardened enforcer hesitated for a fraction of a second.
Julian slowly slid off his custom black tuxedo jacket, letting the expensive fabric drop unheeded to the marble floor. Beneath it, his white dress shirt stretched tightly across a broad, muscular frame shaped by years of disciplined martial training and private combat instruction—skills he had kept hidden behind boardroom doors.
"Julian, have you completely lost your mind?" Evelyn shrieked, marching down the altar steps with her pristine white veil trailing behind her in the dust. "You are a Fortune 500 CEO, not a street brawler! Call your corporate lawyers! Call the police! Do not throw your life away for a couple of wandering beggars!"
"Get back, Evelyn," Julian ordered without turning his head, his eyes locked entirely on Marcus. "This is no longer about corporate shares. This is about blood."
Marcus smirked, signaling his three associates to fan out laterally, blocking the side exits and sealing off any possibility of escape. "You think you can take four trained operatives bare-handed, Mr. Vance? The chairman respects your intelligence, but he gave strict instructions: retrieve the heirs by any means necessary. Collateral damage is authorized."
Clara whimpered softly, pressing her face against Julian’s side while holding the infant securely in the pink blanket. Julian felt a sudden, fierce surge of protective instinct unlike anything he had ever experienced in his thirty-five years of life. He realized with absolute clarity that if he handed these children over to his grandfather’s men, they would disappear from the face of the earth before sunrise, just like his brother Thomas.
"Clara, when I tell you to run, head straight through the side vestry door behind the altar," Julian whispered down to the terrified girl, his muscles tensing like coiled steel. "Don't look back, and don't stop until you reach the underground parking garage."
"I won't leave you, Daddy!" Clara cried softly, her small fingers hooking into the fabric of his white shirt.
"You have to," Julian replied softly. Then, with an explosive burst of movement, Julian lunged forward, driving his fist directly into Marcus’s jaw before the enforcer could draw his weapon.
The sickening crunch of bone echoed off the stone pillars as Marcus crashed backward into a mahogany pew, knocking it completely over. The remaining three operatives roared in unison and charged forward, turning the luxury wedding hall into a violent battleground.

Evelyn screamed at the top of her lungs as a heavy oak chair splintered inches from her bridal shoes, scattering terrified guests in every direction.
