Chapter 10 - The Sinclair Ultimatum

The blinding beam of the tactical flashlight locked onto Julian’s face, casting harsh shadows across his bruised cheekbones and the quiet, sleeping infant resting safely against his chest. Clara instinctively shrank back into the damp brick wall behind him, her small fingers wrapping tightly around the folds of her dusty blue dress.
"You're making a catastrophic mistake, Richard," Julian said, his voice terrifyingly calm as he stepped slightly forward to shield Clara from view. "If you side with my grandfather on this, you aren't just tying yourself to a sinking ship—you're binding your entire corporate legacy to a criminal conspiracy."
Richard Sinclair let out a harsh, barking laugh, his face flushing a deep, mottled crimson. "Don't you dare lecture me about corporate ethics, you ungrateful punk! My family funded the expansion of your shipping lanes back when your grandfather was nothing more than a dockside smuggler! You think a couple of ragged orphans and a fake silver pendant are going to tear down decades of carefully built power? Evelyn is marrying the CEO of Vance Enterprises, and if that brat ruins her wedding day, I will personally ensure you spend the rest of your life rotting in a federal penitentiary!"
"Father, make him give me the necklace!" Evelyn shrieked, stepping forward with her ruined, buttercream-stained lace bridal gown dragging heavily in the dirty puddles. She pointed a trembling, manicured finger directly at Clara. "That little rat stole a priceless Vance family heirloom! It belongs to me by matrimonial right!"
"It belongs to the true heir," Julian stated coldly, his eyes flashing with lethal warning. "And neither you nor my grandfather will ever touch it."
Before Richard could raise his gold-plated cane to signal his security guards, a deep, rhythmic metallic clanging echoed from the far end of the tunnel behind the Sinclairs. The sound was unmistakable—the heavy, purposeful trudge of military boots marching in perfect synchronization.
Richard and Evelyn froze, their arrogant expressions instantly faltering as a second set of flashlight beams cut through the gloom from the opposite direction, trapping them all in the center of the damp corridor.
"Mr. Sinclair. Miss Sinclair," a cold, unfamiliar voice echoed from the shadows.
A tall, impeccably dressed man in a charcoal bespoke suit stepped into the light. He wore a silver lapel pin shaped like a coiled viper—the unmistakable insignia of Arthur Vance’s personal legal fixers. Behind him stood six heavily armed operatives blocking the exit toward the street.
"Director Vance sends his apologies for the interruption," the fixer said smoothly, his eyes scanning Julian, Clara, and the infant with chilling indifference. "The family dispute is officially concluded. Hand over the children and step aside, Julian. The helicopter is waiting on the roof."

Julian’s heart hammered against his ribs as he realized they were completely surrounded. There was nowhere left to run.
