Chapter 1 - The Shattered Glass

The acoustic perfection of the grand foyer amplified every intake of breath, turning a private catastrophe into a public execution. Julian stood paralyzed between two entirely different futures, his white button-down shirt damp with nervous sweat at the collar.
"Don't speak to Lauren like that!" Julian shouted, his voice echoing off the high vaulted ceilings of the estate.
Across the gleaming white marble floor, Clara clutched her rounded belly with trembling hands. Her tear-streaked face crumpled in absolute disbelief. The off-shoulder white dress she wore, chosen specifically for this anniversary gala, now felt like a shroud.
"Are you sleeping with her?" Clara asked, her voice cracking with a devastation that cut through the cavernous room.
Julian swallowed hard, shifting his weight. Beside him, Vivian tightened her grip on Julian’s arm. Her silky gold slip dress shimmered under the crystal chandeliers, and a calm, smug smile played across her lips.
"I think she still doesn't understand," Vivian said smoothly, her voice dripping with condescension.
Tears streamed down Clara's face as the full horror of the situation washed over her. She looked at the man she had loved, trusted, and built a life with for five years.
"Understand completely," Clara whispered, her voice chillingly quiet yet heavy with finality.
Heavy double doors at the far end of the foyer swung open with a sickening thud. Richard Vance strode in, flanked by two stone-faced bodyguards in dark suits. The fifty-year-old billionaire’s short grey hair bristled with barely contained rage as his sharp eyes locked onto Julian.
"We made her a promise," Richard said, his voice a low, terrifying rumble that silenced the entire room.

Julian flinched, stepping back. But Richard didn't look at Julian anymore; his eyes burned into Vivian, whose smug smile instantly vanished as an envelope fell from her designer handbag onto the marble floor.
