Chapter 9: Light in the Darkness

Arthur reached out and slammed the heavy fire extinguisher directly into the main circuit breaker box. Sparks flew, showering the hall in blue light, and the entire facility was instantly plunged into pitch blackness.
Shouts of alarm echoed from the control room. ""What happened to the lights? Get your night vision!""
Using the darkness to his advantage, Arthur slipped into the room. Guided by memory and the dim emergency backup lights, he bypassed the confused guards, moving straight toward the corner where Eleanor sat.
""Eleanor,"" he whispered urgently.
""Dad?"" her voice came, frail and disbelieving. ""Dad, is that really you?""

""I'm here, sweetheart,"" Arthur said, using his pocketknife to quickly sever the zip-ties binding her wrists. ""Laura found me. She's safe outside.""
Tears spilled down Eleanor’s pale face as her hands came free. ""Laura... my baby girl made it.""
