Chapter 14: Unspoken Bond

Arthur walked out onto the porch, carrying two glasses of fresh orange juice. He handed one to Eleanor and sat in the rocking chair beside her.
""She looks so much like you when you were her age,"" Arthur said softly, watching Laura run across the lawn.
""She has your stubbornness, Dad,"" Eleanor smiled, leaning her head on Arthur’s shoulder. ""When I gave her that ledger, I prayed she would be brave enough to find you. She never gave up hope.""

""Neither did you,"" Arthur replied, squeezing her hand. ""For ten years, I thought I had lost you because of my own failures. I promise you, Eleanor, for the rest of my life, I will protect this family with everything I have.""
