Chapter 10: The Escape

Before they could move, flashlights illuminated the doorway. ""Don't move!"" a guard shouted, raising his rifle.
Arthur instantly shoved Eleanor behind a heavy steel desk and fired two precise shots into the ceiling lights overhead, blinding the guard's flashlight line of sight.
""Run, Eleanor! Toward the stairs!"" Arthur yelled.

They bolted down the dark corridor as alarm sirens began to blare. A harsh synthetic voice echoed over the intercom system: WARNING: FACILITY PURGE INITIATED. STRUCTURAL DEMOLITION IN 05:00 MINUTES.
The walls shook as minor charges began detonating in the lower levels, sending concrete dust pouring from the ceiling. Arthur supported Eleanor, whose legs were weak from years of captivity, as they scrambled up the concrete stairs toward the cold night air.
