Chapter 11: The Eve of Judgment

The atmosphere inside the Vance estate that evening was suffocatingly quiet. Dinner went largely untouched. Elena tried her best to maintain a cheerful demeanor for Leo, reading him his favorite bedtime story until the boy’s heavy eyelids finally drifted shut.
Julian sat alone in his study, the darkness outside pressing against the glass like a physical entity. The heavy mahogany desk was clear of papers for the first time in weeks. In front of him sat a single manila folder containing the nuclear option Marcus had prepared—a counter-lawsuit involving international financial fraud and perjury charges against both Clara and Arthur.
The door creaked open, and Elena stepped inside, holding a cup of tea. She placed it gently on the desk, her eyes full of quiet empathy.
"He’s fast asleep," Elena said softly. "He asked if you were going to be in the courtroom tomorrow."
Julian looked up, his face etched with profound exhaustion. "I have to be, Elena. I can't let them take him without a fight."
"He knows you love him, Mr. Vance," Elena said, her voice steady and reassuring. "Biological ties are important on paper, but a true father is defined by who stays, who protects, and who loves unconditionally. No judge can erase what you’ve built with that boy over the last seven years."
Julian managed a faint, tired smile. "Thank you, Elena. For everything. No matter what happens tomorrow, I want you to know how much your loyalty has meant to this family."
"I’m not going anywhere," Elena replied firmly. "And neither is Leo."
As Elena quietly left the study, Julian picked up his phone and dialed a direct number. "Marcus. It’s time. Execute the financial freeze on Arthur’s overseas accounts immediately. Let’s see how confident he is tomorrow when his corporate backers pull his funding."
"It’s a massive legal gamble, Julian," Marcus’s voice warned over the line. "It could backfire if Judge Harrison views it as aggressive intimidation."

"I don't care," Julian said resolutely. "Let’s end this."
