Chapter 8: A Plea for Grace
Before the closing arguments, a surprise motion was filed. Sarah requested to read a victim impact statement directly to the judge. Standing at the podium, her scars barely visible now, she addressed the court. ""Eleanor broke the law, and she broke my trust,"" Sarah said, her voice steady. ""But throwing away the key will not bring my husband back, nor will it heal the sickness that drove her to this. I ask the court for justice, but I also ask that justice includes mandatory psychological and rehabilitative care. We cannot simply punish the broken; we must try to fix them.""
