Chapter 11: The First Letter
Three years into Eleanor's sentence, a letter arrived at the foundation’s headquarters, addressed to Sarah. It was written on cheap, lined prison paper. In it, Eleanor detailed her agonizing journey through rehab. She wrote about the shame, the guilt, and the slow, painful process of uncovering the trauma that had fueled her addiction. She didn't ask for forgiveness or a reduced sentence; she simply wanted to tell Sarah that she was trying to be better. Sarah kept the letter in her desk drawer, reading it several times over the next few weeks.
