Chapter 15: The Light Remains

Eleanor passed away peacefully on a rainy Tuesday morning. In her final will, which she had drafted with the prison's legal aid, she left the very few personal mementos she had left entirely to Sarah, along with a letter expressing profound gratitude. Years later, standing in the courtyard of a newly opened rehabilitation center funded by the foundation, Sarah addressed a crowd. She spoke of cycles of pain and the immense, difficult power of breaking them. She looked up at a security camera mounted on the wall—no longer a symbol of terror and entrapment, but a reminder of the truth. The truth that even in the darkest rooms, if we choose humanity over vengeance, the light will eventually find its way in.
