CHAPTER 7: MOVING FORWARD

Three months passed. The public scandal had slowly faded from headline news, replaced by newer gossip in the city. Victoria had moved to a modest seaside home two hours away, attending regular therapy sessions and stepping away from high-society events completely.

Julian remained at the estate, taking a step back from his high-stress executive role at the family firm. He spent his days working on restoring old wooden boats down at the local harbor—a long-abandoned hobby he had loved during his youth before business demands took over.

Meanwhile, the dynamic inside the Sterling estate began to shift dramatically. Without the constant pressure to maintain an illusion of perfection, the house felt lighter.

One sunny afternoon, Julian walked up to the estate's courtyard, carrying a small cardboard box. He found Lily playing with a wooden dollhouse on the veranda while Clara was reading a book nearby.

""Hey, little one,"" Julian said warmly, kneeling down beside Lily.

""Hi, Uncle Julian!"" Lily beamed, looking up from her toys. ""Did you fix another boat today?""

""I did,"" Julian smiled, his eyes lighting up with genuine happiness that hadn't been there in years. ""And I brought you something from the workshop.""

He opened the box to reveal a beautifully carved wooden sailboat, polished smooth with delicate sails made of clean white canvas. Lily’s eyes widened in wonder as she gently touched the miniature boat.

""It's beautiful!"" she gasped. ""Does it float?""

""It certainly does,"" Julian replied, looking up at Clara with a grateful expression. ""I was wondering if your mom would let us take it to the pond near the park today?""

Clara smiled warmly, closing her book. ""We would love that, Julian.""

As they walked down to the estate’s private pond, Julian walked beside Clara, watching Lily run ahead with the wooden boat.

""I never thanked you properly, Clara,"" Julian said quietly after a few minutes of walking.

""For what?"" Clara asked softly.

May you like

""For raising Lily to be brave enough to tell the truth,"" Julian answered. ""If she hadn't spoken up that night... I don't know how long we would have lived in that lie. It broke my heart, but it saved my life. I was living on autopilot for years.""

""Sometimes the truth is a harsh medicine,"" Clara said, looking at the sunlight reflecting on the pond water. ""But it's the only thing that actually cures us.""
