CHAPTER 6: A CHOICE FOR TRUTH
That evening, Arthur called a private family meeting in the formal living room. For the first time in years, everyone sat together without servants or advisors present. Julian sat on the sofa, looking tired but present. Victoria sat at the opposite end of the couch, pale and quiet, holding a hand towel tightly. Clara sat near the fireplace, with Lily playing quietly with wooden blocks on the rug nearby.
Arthur stood near the mantle, looking at each member of his family.
""For thirty years, I built the Sterling name based on prestige, success, and flawlessness,"" Arthur began, his voice deep and solemn. ""I thought I was giving my children the best life possible. But tonight, standing in this room, I realize I built an environment where my daughter-in-law felt she had to fake a life to be loved, and my son felt he had to carry the weight of perfection alone.""
Victoria looked up, shocked by Arthur’s words. She had expected a formal eviction from the family estate, not an admission of guilt from the patriarch himself.
""I will not release a fake statement to the press,"" Arthur continued, looking directly at Victoria. ""I will simply state that our family is going through a private personal loss and asking for privacy. We will not lie anymore.""
Julian turned to look at Victoria. The cold distance in his eyes had softened slightly. ""Victoria... I can't pretend that what you did didn't break my trust completely. It did. I need time to heal, and I think we need time apart.""
Victoria nodded tearfully, accepting the consequence. ""I understand, Julian. I don't expect you to forgive me today. I just want to get help. I need to figure out who I am when I'm not trying to impress everyone.""

For the first time in months, Victoria felt a strange sense of relief. The heavy weight of her deception was finally gone, replaced by a quiet, honest reality.
