Chapter 9: The Safehouse Protocol

Three days after Sterling’s arrest, the morning sun rose bright and warm over the coastal cliffs of Cape Elizabeth. Eleanor, Victoria, and Mark sat on the veranda of Clara’s secret seaside cottage—a place she had bought under a pseudonym to conduct her final work in peace.
Little Lily ran across the green lawn, chasing a yellow butterfly with innocent laughter. For the first time in months, the air felt clean, untainted by fear or suspicion.
Mark set down a stack of legal documents on the glass table. “The Department of Justice has seized all of Sterling’s domestic and offshore assets. The foundation board has been dissolved, and federal prosecutors are filing formal charges against everyone involved in the syndicate.”
“And Clara’s medical patent?” Eleanor asked, her eyes following her granddaughter’s playful movements.
“The FDA and international medical boards have fast-tracked the trial phase,” Mark replied with a smile. “Because of Clara’s pristine documentation, the therapy will enter clinical trials next month. It will be distributed royalty-free to children’s hospitals worldwide.”

Victoria smiled, sipping her coffee. “Clara’s dream is coming true.”
Mark stood up, adjusting his coat. “There is one more thing. Clara left a personal video message on the drive, encrypted specifically for you, Eleanor. We unlocked it this morning.”
