HER LAST BREATH BEFORE DAWN / Chapter 15 / 15

Chapter 15: The Dawn of Tomorrow**

One year after the incident in the kitchen, Laura stood on the shoreline of Cape Cod, listening to the rhythmic crash of the ocean waves against the sand.

The morning dawn was breaking over the Atlantic horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of violet, amber, and rose gold. The air was crisp, salty, and infinitely pure.

A few yards ahead, Chloe and Marcus were skipping flat stones across the gentle surf. Chloe’s joyous laughter carried on the wind, clear and unobstructed. She threw a stone with all her might, watching it bounce three times across the crest of a rolling wave before sinking into the deep blue.

Laura took a long, deep breath, filling her lungs with the ocean breeze.

There had been days when she believed the shadows of the Sterling family would consume them entirely. Days when fear felt like an iron cage, and despair seemed like the only reality. But standing here on the edge of the vast ocean, watching her daughter leap into the light with boundless energy, Laura understood that darkness only holds power as long as good people stay silent.

Chloe turned around, waving her arms enthusiastically. "Mommy, come look! The sun is completely up!"

"I'm coming, baby!" Laura called back.

Laura ran across the damp sand, the cool morning water lapping gently at her bare feet. She took Chloe’s hand and Marcus’s hand, standing together at the water’s edge as the golden sun illuminated the wide, endless horizon ahead.

They had fought through the longest night of their lives. And now, every breath was freedom.
