Chapter 7: An Uninvited Guest**

"Mommy!" Leo came running, throwing his arms around both of them, forming a tight, weeping circle in the middle of the desolate warehouse.
For a brief, suspended moment, the pain of the past was washed away by the pure, unadulterated warmth of family reunited. Clara stroked her son's messy hair, planting soft kisses on his forehead. "You did so good, my brave little man. You found your auntie."
"She has the same clip, Mommy! Just like you said!" Leo beamed proudly.
Clara looked up at Elena, a faint, melancholic smile playing on her lips. "I kept it all these years to remind me that we were halves of the same soul, Ellie. Even when the fire took everything else."
*Clap. Clap. Clap.*
A slow, mocking applause cut through the silence of the warehouse like a butcher's blade.
From the shadows near the main loading dock, three men stepped into view. Leading them was Julian Cross, his silver hair slicked back, wearing a bespoke trench coat and a diamond-encrusted silver signet ring that caught the dying light.
"What a profoundly touching family reunion," Julian sneered, slipping a silver-plated semi-automatic pistol from his pocket. "It almost makes me feel guilty for having to finish what I started seven years ago."
Clara immediately pushed Leo behind her, while Elena stepped forward, shielding them both with her own body.
"Julian," Elena said, her voice dropping to a frigid, lethal pitch. "You killed our parents' legacy, and you tried to murder my sister. It ends tonight."

Julian chuckled, a dry, grating sound. "Actually, Elena, it ends when I take that ledger from your nephew's hands and burn this warehouse to the ground with all three of you inside."
