Chapter 14: The Garden of Remembrance**

On a crisp autumn afternoon, a year to the day since Clara's passing, Elena and Leo traveled back to the grounds of the old Blackwood Manor.

The blackened ruins had been cleared away. In their place stood a breathtaking memorial garden filled with weeping willows, stone pathways, and thousands of blooming white hydrangeas and gardenias—Clara’s favorite flowers.

At the center of the garden stood a bronze statue of a mother holding a small boy's hand, looking up toward the morning sun. The plaque beneath it read:

> **CLARA VANCE**
> *A mother whose love was stronger than fire, whose courage defeated the dark.*
> *“Love never fails.”*

Leo knelt before the monument, placing a bouquet of fresh white roses against the polished stone. He bowed his head for a quiet moment, talking to his mother in the secret silence of his heart.

Elena stood behind him, the cool coastal breeze rustling through her dark hair.

For seven years, Elena had lived in a prison of self-reproach, believing that wealth and aloofness were the only shields against heartbreak. But Clara had shown her that the greatest strength is not in avoiding pain—it is in daring to love fiercely, even when the world is burning around you.

Leo stood up and reached backward, finding Elena’s hand and gripping it tightly.

"She’s happy, Auntie Ellie," Leo said with the simple, profound wisdom of a child. "I can feel her smiling."

"I know she is, my darling," Elena whispered, squeezing his hand back.
