Chapter 9: The Turn of the Tide

The turning point came when the prosecution called Julian to the stand as an expert forensic witness. With years of experience in high-speed event photography, Julian walked the jury through the micro-second metadata embedded in the image files.
""If you look at Frame 104,"" Julian explained, projecting a magnified section of the photo onto the courtroom display, ""you can see Mr. Vance's fingers clenched firmly around the handles of the board. The vector of movement is directed downward and forward, away from the cake table and directly toward the child.""
He switched to the next image. ""Furthermore, the facial micro-expressions recorded show clear muscle contraction associated with aggressive intent, not surprise or defensive reflex.""
The defense tried to break Julian's credibility on cross-examination, questioning his motives and his growing friendship with Eleanor.

""Isn't it true, Mr. Julian, that you are seeking publicity for your photography business through this high-profile trial?"" the defense lawyer pressed.
Julian looked the attorney dead in the eye. ""I am here because when I looked through my lens that night, I saw a child who needed protection and a bully who thought he was invisible. My business doesn't need publicity, but our justice system needs truth.""
