Chapter 14: The New Foundation

A year after the event at the ballroom, Eleanor organized a gathering at a quiet coastal park. It wasn't a grand, ostentatious party like the one Arthur had thrown, but a simple, warm picnic with true friends, supportive colleagues, Thomas, and Julian.
The air was fresh with the scent of pine and salt water. Children played on the grass while adults talked without the heavy tension that used to dominate family events.
Julian walked up to Eleanor, who was watching Lily build a small sandcastle with other children near the shore.
""You look peaceful,"" Julian noted, leaning against the wooden railing.
""I am,"" Eleanor said, smiling warmly. ""For the first time in my life, I'm not waiting for the next storm to hit. We built our own shelter.""
