Chapter 9: Echoes of Redemption

A few days after the opening, Amy received a letter in the mail. The handwriting on the envelope was hesitant, delicate, and instantly recognizable.
It was from Chloe.
Amy sat on her porch swing, unfolding the paper with mixed emotions.
Dear Amy,
I don't expect you to forgive me. I know what I did was unpardonable, and I loathe myself for destroying our friendship. Ethan manipulated my insecurities, but I chose to let him. I have left the city and moved to my aunt's home in Oregon to get help and rebuild my life. I am so sorry for the pain I caused you. I hope one day you find the happiness you truly deserve.
Amy held the letter for a long time. For months, she had held onto a tiny ember of resentment toward Chloe. But as she read the words, she realized that holding onto anger was like holding hot coal—it only burned the person carrying it.
Amy took a pen and a simple card. She wrote three sentences:
May you like
I forgive you, Chloe. Not for your sake, but for mine. I wish you healing on your journey.
She mailed the card that afternoon, letting go of the final piece of poison from her past.
