Chapter 14: The Foundation

On a warm afternoon in June, one year after the canceled wedding, Lucas led Amy up the winding trail behind the workshop to a scenic overlook facing the valley.
The sun was dipping below the mountains, painting the sky in vibrant shades of gold, amber, and violet.
""I brought you here to show you something,"" Lucas said, pulling a wooden box from his pocket.
Amy’s heart skipped a beat, but this time there was no anxiety—only pure joy.
Lucas knelt on one knee on the lush green grass. He opened the box to reveal a delicate ring handcrafted from polished walnut wood, inlaid with a small, brilliant diamond that belonged to his grandmother.
""Amy,"" Lucas said, his voice deep with emotion. ""This ring isn't made of gold that glitters for show. It’s made of oak and diamond—built to withstand storms, rooted in truth, and crafted with love. Will you build a life with me?""

Tears of genuine happiness filled Amy’s eyes. She knelt beside him, wrapping her arms around his neck.
""Yes, Lucas,"" she whispered against his skin. ""A thousand times, yes.""
