By spring, The Grain & Gallery had expanded. Lucas and Amy hired three young apprentices from the local high school, teaching them sustainable woodworking and interior design. Amy was no longer just decorating houses; she was helping people create meaningful homes.
One afternoon, a package arrived at the shop addressed to Amy. Inside was a formal legal document from the Bennett Corporation.
Ethan’s father, Mr. Bennett, had restructured the company’s ethics board following the scandal and Ethan’s subsequent resignation. Attached was a letter offering Amy a lucrative contract to design their new eco-friendly headquarters in the city, recognizing her talent independent of her past relationship with Ethan.
Amy held the contract in her hands. A year ago, this would have been her ultimate dream—validation from high society and a massive paycheck.
She walked over to Lucas, who was working at his workbench. She showed him the letter.
