Chapter 3: Returning to Roots

Willow Creek was a quiet town nestled at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The air smelled of pine and fresh soil, a grounding contrast to the polished marble of the city.
When Amy pulled up to her mother’s modest wood-frame house, Sarah was waiting on the porch. The moment Amy stepped out of the car in her crumpled wedding dress, Sarah wrapped her in a tight hug. No questions asked, no judgments passed—just unconditional motherly warmth.
""Let’s get you out of that dress, baby,"" Sarah whispered softly.
That evening, sitting by the kitchen table with a mug of chamomile tea, Amy told her mother everything. Sarah listened quietly, her eyes glistening with shared pain, but her posture strong.
""I spent three years changing myself for him, Mom,"" Amy confessed, looking at her bare hands. ""I altered my dreams to fit his corporate lifestyle. I thought if I gave him everything, he’d respect me.""
Sarah reached across the table and held Amy’s hand. ""Respect isn't bought with sacrifices, Amy. A real partner honors who you are. You didn't lose Ethan today—you saved yourself from a lifetime of quiet misery.""

The words resonated deep in Amy’s soul. Betrayal was a heavy shadow, but as she looked around her mother’s cozy home, filled with handcrafted wooden furniture and warm light, she realized her foundation was still intact.
The next morning, Amy folded the wedding dress into a plain box and locked it in the closet. It was time to rebuild.
