""I don't need their validation anymore, Lucas,"" Amy said, her voice filled with quiet confidence.

She wrote a polite decline to Mr. Bennett, recommending instead a talented young female designer from Willow Creek who was looking for her big break.

""Are you sure?"" Lucas asked, watching her intently.

""Success isn't about being famous in a city that doesn't care about you,"" Amy explained, walking over and wrapping her arms around his waist. ""It’s about waking up every morning excited to create something real with people you love. My life is here.""

Lucas pulled her close, pressing a kiss to her forehead. ""You never cease to amaze me.""
