Chapter 7: The Power of No

""I am home, Ethan,"" Amy replied softly, gesturing to the rustic workshop around her.

Ethan frowned, looking around condescendingly. ""Here? In this dusty garage? Amy, you were meant for high society, not making wooden tables in a dead-end town! I can give you everything—a mansion, luxury, security.""

Before Amy could speak, Lucas walked out from the back workshop, a measuring tape in hand. He didn't raise his voice or posture aggressively; he simply stood beside Amy, a steady mountain of support.

""Is this guy bothering you, Amy?"" Lucas asked gently.

Ethan sneered, assessing Lucas. ""Who are you supposed to be? Her carpenter?""

Amy took a step forward, looking directly into Ethan’s eyes with absolute clarity. ""He is my business partner, Ethan. And more importantly, he respects me. You never understood what security truly means. It isn't money or a massive house. It’s trust. It’s integrity. Things you will never possess.""

Ethan’s face flushed with anger and embarrassment. ""You’re throwing away a fortune for this?""

""No,"" Amy said firmly. ""I’m keeping my self-respect. Goodbye, Ethan.""

Realizing he had lost completely, Ethan turned on his heel and slammed the door behind him. As his sports car sped away into the afternoon mist, Amy let out a long breath. She didn't feel sadness—only an overwhelming sense of liberation.
