Chapter 14: The Promise by the Shore
Two years later, the lake house was once again filled with the gentle hum of celebration.
There were no massive crystal chandeliers, no hundreds of black-tie socialites, and no television camera crews camped outside the gates.
Instead, fairy lights hung between the sturdy pine branches over the lawn leading down to the lake. A simple wooden arch wrapped in wild mountain daisies stood at the water's edge.
Standing beneath the arch were forty close friends, neighbors from the town, and Clara, who wore an elegant floral dress and beamed with radiant pride.
Julian stood at the altar in a simple navy linen suit. Beside him, dressed as the best man in matching trousers and suspenders, was seven-year-old Leo, standing tall and proud.
Down the grass aisle walked Maya, breathtaking in a simple, flowing ivory lace dress, her hair adorned with wildflowers. When she reached Julian, she took his hands, her eyes brimming with happy tears.
The local magistrate began the ceremony, but when it came time for the vows, Julian turned to both Maya and Leo.
