Chapter 15 - The Clean Slate

The morning sun washed over the grand glass facade of St. Clair Enterprises, casting a brilliant, warm light across the bustling downtown plaza. Inside the executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor, the massive mahogany table was surrounded by new faces—and a few repentant old ones—all sitting in absolute silence as Isabella St. Clair took her seat at the head of the table.

She wore a simple, elegant ivory blouse, her dark hair tied back neatly without any sparkling clips, her posture straight and commanding. Resting directly in front of her on the polished wood was not a ledger or a financial report, but a single, unthreaded sewing needle and a small glass jar containing fifteen small pearl buttons.

Arthur St. Clair Senior stood near the floor-to-ceiling windows, holding a warm cup of black tea, looking out over the city skyline with a quiet, peaceful smile. The nightmare of the poisoning, the fraudulent wills, and the harrowing wedding night was finally buried beneath the weight of undeniable truth and absolute justice.

“The first item on our agenda,” Isabella began, her voice carrying clear, resonant authority across the silent room, “is the complete restructuring of our corporate governance and the full restoration of every asset stolen from our subsidiary partners.”

The senior vice president sitting to her left—one of the few who had refused to sign Julian’s forged audits—nodded respectfully, sliding a fresh stack of independent audit reports toward her. “All accounts have been audited and cleared by federal prosecutors, Ms. St. Clair. The board is entirely at your command.”

Isabella opened the glass jar, picked up the sewing needle, and placed one of the pearl buttons gently beside it on the table. She didn't look back at the past, nor did she dwell on the ruined wedding dress or the shattered ballroom floor that had started it all. Every secret had been brought to light, every thread had been pulled until the lies fell away, and the fabric of her life was finally her own to weave.

“Let’s get to work,” Isabella said, her fingers steady and unyielding as she signed her name to the first clean page of the new ledger.
