Chapter 13 - The Final Confrontation

The rain had stopped, leaving the downtown streets slick and reflecting the neon glare of billboards under a bruised, ink-black evening sky. The grand marble steps of the St. Clair estate glowed under the amber security lights as Isabella stepped out of the black federal SUV, her long dark hair pulled back neatly, wearing a sharp, tailored charcoal suit that replaced the ruined wedding gown.
Waiting at the top of the grand double doors stood Julian. He had changed into a fresh black tuxedo, though his tie was missing and his shirt collar hung open, revealing the frantic, manic energy vibrating through his frame. Behind him stood two armed private security guards holding heavy leather briefcases.
“You thought you could lock me out of my own empire with a flash drive and a medical brace, Isabella?” Julian called out, his voice echoing off the stone columns as he descended the first three steps toward her.
Isabella didn't stop walking. She climbed the steps with measured, deliberate strides, her heels clicking sharply against the granite until she stood just three feet away from him. “You don't own an empire anymore, Julian. You own a prison cell and a bankrupt shell of a company.”
Julian laughed—a sharp, unhinged sound that lacked any genuine humor. “The federal servers are wiped. The backup drives are in my possession. Without my signature, the board cannot liquidate the offshore assets to pay off the bank loans due tomorrow morning. The entire company defaults by sunrise, and we all go down together.”
“You didn't check the ninety-ninth percentile of the server quarantine, did you, Julian?” Isabella asked quietly, tilting her head with a chilling composure.
Julian’s laughter died instantly. His eyes narrowed as he stared at her face, searching for any sign of bluffing. “What are you talking about?”
From the shadows behind the massive stone pillars, Arthur St. Clair Senior stepped forward into the amber light, holding an official court-stamped document bearing the federal judge's seal. Behind him stood Walter Vance and four federal marshals with their weapons holstered but ready.
“You forgot rule number one of corporate espionage, Julian,” Arthur said, his raspy voice cutting through the heavy night air. “Never underestimate a man who faked his own death to watch his enemies expose themselves.”
Julian spun around, reaching frantically for the briefcase held by his private security guard, but the guards had already dropped their handles and stepped back, raising their hands in the air as Walter Vance flashed his federal badge.
“It’s over, Julian,” Walter said, stepping forward to snap the cold steel cuffs onto Julian’s wrists for the second time in twenty-four hours. “The quarantine protocol extracted every hidden asset, every fake signature, and every shell corporation directly into federal custody five minutes ago.”
Julian struggled violently, thrashing against the marshals as they forced him down onto the grand estate steps. “You can’t do this! I built this company! I made it what it is!”
May you like
“You built it on stolen threads, Julian,” Isabella said, looking down at him without a single ounce of pity. “And now the entire garment has completely unraveled.”
