Chapter 8 - The Ghost in the Machine

Chaos erupted across the ballroom as wealthy investors and corporate executives scrambled to check their encrypted financial portals. Whispers turned into shouts of alarm, and several journalists rushed toward the exit doors, phones pressed tightly against their ears. The romantic ambiance of the wedding had disintegrated into a high-stakes corporate firefight in a matter of seconds. The minister stepped back from the altar, looking entirely bewildered as the ceremony dissolved into total pandemonium.

"Everyone, please remain calm!" Marcus shouted over the rising din, his face flushed with adrenaline and fury as he glared directly at Julian. "This is a temporary technical glitch! The wedding will proceed!"

"There is no wedding, Marcus," Julian said, his voice ringing with absolute authority as he pulled his arm free from Lily’s desperate grasp. He turned to face the crowd, his posture straight and unyielding. "What you are witnessing right now is the dismantling of a criminal enterprise operating from within our own walls."

Lily lunged toward Julian, her white lace dress tangling around her legs as she abandoned all pretense of grace. "He's lying! He's unstable! Stop him!" she shrieked, tears of pure rage finally spilling over her cheeks, ruining her meticulously applied makeup.

Julian ignored her, raising his hand to silence the murmuring crowd. "Six months ago, my brother David did not die in a tragic accident. He was murdered. And the documents proving the embezzlement of our company funds, along with the conspiracy to cover up his death, are currently being broadcast to federal investigators and every major news outlet in the country."

Marcus charged down the aisle like a madman, his hands outstretched to tackle Julian before he could reveal any more damning details. But before Marcus could take three steps, the massive ballroom doors slammed open with a deafening bang.
