Chapter 14: The Melody of the Clock

Back at the penthouse, Gabriel oversaw the final packing of his personal belongings. He was officially relocating to the upstate estate to raise Emma surrounded by nature, clean air, and family.

The penthouse was almost empty, its modern furniture draped in white dust sheets. Only the antique grandfather clock remained in the center of the living room, awaiting the specialty movers.

Gabriel walked over to the tall wooden clock. He opened the glass door and took out the brass winding key. Methodically, he wound the twin weights, listening to the heavy, satisfying clicks of the internal gears.

Emma ran into the room, sliding across the polished floor in her socks. She stopped beside him, looking up at the pendulum swinging steadily back and forth: *Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.*

"Is it fixed now, Uncle Gabe?" she asked.

"It’s completely fixed," Gabriel said, closing the carved door. "No more blinking lights. No more secrets. Just honest time."

Emma smiled, resting her ear against the polished mahogany wood. "It sounds like a heartbeat."

Gabriel felt a profound sense of serenity wash over him. For years, every tick of a clock had felt like a countdown in a high-stakes war for power and survival. Now, for the first time in his life, time felt like a gift—a steady rhythm guiding them toward a peaceful future.

"Come on," Gabriel said, offering his hand. "Clara has dinner ready at the farm."

Emma took his hand, her small fingers wrapping securely around his tattooed palm. Together, they walked out of the penthouse, leaving the empty tower behind.
