Chapter 13 - The Confrontation in the Study

The heavy mahogany doors slammed back against the wood-paneled walls with a thunderous crash, splintering the brass lock mechanism. Arthur dropped his desk phone, spinning around in his leather executive chair with a look of absolute shock twisting his aristocratic features.
"What the—" Arthur started, scrambling backward as Jax strode into the center of the expansive study like an inescapable storm.
Clara followed right behind him, stepping into the warm, book-lined room with her head held high. The lingering terror that had defined her life for the past four years evaporated, replaced by a cold, searing clarity.
Arthur’s eyes darted from Jax’s towering, tattooed frame to Clara’s resolute face. A nervous, arrogant smile touched his lips as he reached slowly toward the top drawer of his mahogany desk.
"You're trespassing on private property," Arthur said, his voice regaining its icy composure as his fingers brushed against the cold steel of a hidden revolver inside the drawer. "You think a washed-up biker and a runaway can threaten me? I own the police chief in this county. I own the judges."
"You don't own a damn thing anymore, Arthur," Clara said, stepping forward and slamming her hands down on the desk, cutting off his access to the drawer before he could pull the weapon free.
Jax moved with terrifying speed. He closed the distance between them in two massive strides, grabbed Arthur by the lapels of his expensive charcoal suit, and hoisted him clean out of the executive chair, slamming him hard against the oak bookshelves behind the desk. Leather-bound volumes tumbled to the floor in a chaotic avalanche.
"You tried to burn me alive," Jax growled, his face inches from Arthur’s, his voice vibrating with a lethal, restrained fury. "You took my daughter away from me with a severed brake line."
Arthur choked for air, his hands clawing uselessly at Jax’s thick forearms. "I... I don't know what you're talking about... you're insane..."
"You left a paper trail a mile wide, Arthur," Clara said coldly, pulling the yellowed police evidence report from her bag and tossing it onto the desk where he could see it clearly under the brass desk lamp. "The state forensics report on the truck sabotage. And more importantly... the digital wire transfers you made to the mechanic who cut the lines."
Arthur’s eyes bulged as he read the incriminating headers on the paper. The color drained entirely from his face. He realized in that instant that his empire of money and influence had just completely collapsed around him.
"You can't prove anything," Arthur gasped, though his voice lacked any real conviction. "It's hearsay... forged documents..."
"It’s not hearsay when it's broadcasted to every federal database in the state," a cool, authoritative voice echoed from the doorway of the study.

Clara, Jax, and Arthur all snapped their heads toward the entrance. Standing in the doorway were two state troopers in uniform, accompanied by an older man with silver hair wearing a federal marshal’s badge, his hand resting casually on his holster.
