Chapter 3: The Sterile Corridor

The hospital smelled of antiseptic and quiet despair. Julian’s polished leather shoes clicked hurriedly against the linoleum as Arthur led him down the dimly lit hallway of the intensive care unit. Outside Room 412, a doctor stood with a clipboard, his face grim.

""Mr. Sterling?"" the doctor asked, recognizing the high-profile philanthropist. ""She’s extremely weak. Her heart is failing due to long-term untreated stress and exhaustion. We were preparing for the worst.""

Julian felt his knees buckle. He looked through the glass window at Olivia. She looked fragile, pale, yet unmistakably the woman he had loved with every fiber of his being. He turned to Arthur, placing a hand on the boy’s small shoulder. ""She kept you safe all these years,"" Julian said quietly. ""Now it’s my turn to save both of you.""
