Chapter 2: A Race Against Time

Without a second thought, Julian grabbed Arthur’s small, shivering hand and led him into the passenger seat of the luxury SUV. He didn't care about the mud or the shattered headlight; his entire universe had shifted in a fraction of a second. He fired up the engine and sped toward Saint Jude’s Hospital.
During the drive, the silence between them was thick with unsaid words. Julian kept glancing at the boy. The resemblance was undeniable—the same hazel eyes, the same stubborn set of the jaw. ""Why didn't she call me?"" Julian asked, his voice thick with emotion.
Arthur stared out the window at the passing city lights. ""She thought you moved on. She thought you didn't want us."" The words hit Julian like a physical blow. He remembered the dark depression that followed their disappearance, the years he spent building a corporate empire just to numb the pain. He realized then that miscommunications and pride had stolen a decade of love. He pressed harder on the accelerator.
