Chapter 14 - The Final Confrontation

The heavy oak doors of the master drawing room stood wide open, welcoming the pale moonlight that broke through the storm clouds outside. The room was deathly quiet, save for the crackling of a dying fire in the grand marble fireplace. Arthur stood in the center of the Persian rug, his navy suit rumpled, flanked by two armed security guards. Across from him stood Elena, her white power suit replaced by a dark, shimmering evening gown, looking like a queen presiding over her conquered domain.
The sound of footsteps echoed in the hallway, and six-year-old Leo and his older brother Thomas walked into the room, guided gently by a female social worker. Leo looked pale and exhausted, his eyes wide with fear as he spotted his father standing near the fireplace.
“Dad!” Leo cried out, breaking away from the social worker and running across the rug to bury his face in Arthur’s tailored trousers.
Arthur dropped to his knees, wrapping his arms tightly around his son, burying his face in the boy’s brown hair. He could feel Leo’s small body trembling with residual terror.
“Are you alright, Leo? Did she hurt you?” Arthur whispered fiercely into his ear, checking the boy over for any signs of harm.
Before Leo could answer, Elena stepped forward, her heels clicking rhythmically against the floorboards. A chilling, triumphant smile graced her lips.
“See, Arthur? They are perfectly fine,” Elena said smoothly, gesturing to the social worker to step back. “They were simply relocated for their own safety while you sorted out your… mental health crisis.”
Arthur stood up slowly, keeping Leo safely behind him as he faced his wife. The manila folder containing the asset transfer papers rested on the mahogany coffee table beside them, waiting for his signature.
“You’ve won the corporation, Elena,” Arthur said, his voice ringing with absolute clarity through the cavernous room. “You and Marcus bled the accounts dry, framed an innocent woman, and terrorized my children. But it ends tonight.”
Elena’s smile faltered for just a fraction of a second, replaced by a cold, sharp glare.
“You are in no position to make demands, Arthur. Sign the papers, or watch your children disappear into the state system forever,” Elena hissed, stepping right up to him.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the drawing room swung wide open with a resounding crash.
Investigator Harris stepped into the room, flanked not by private security, but by four federal marshals in full tactical gear, their badges gleaming brightly under the crystal chandelier. Behind them walked Marcus Vance in handcuffs, flanked by two local police officers.
Elena spun around, her face draining completely of color as the federal marshals moved swiftly to secure the perimeter.

“Arrest Elena Hall on federal charges of corporate fraud, embezzlement, and conspiracy to obstruct justice,” Harris announced, his voice echoing authoritatively off the high ceilings as he pulled a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt.
