Chapter 6 - The Bloodline Conspiracy

The holographic projection hovered in the chilly night air, casting an eerie blue glow across the horrified expressions of everyone on the portico. Julian stared at the name glowing on the data stream: Vanguard Holdings LLC. The principal beneficiary wasn't just Marcus or Evelyn; it was David Vance, the sitting District Attorney and Evelyn’s older brother. The betrayal wasn't merely a corporate coup or a marital dispute; it was a systemic, familial conspiracy designed to completely annihilate Julian Sterling and appropriate his entire dynasty.

Julian slowly lowered the firearm, the sheer magnitude of the plot draining the remaining anger from his veins, leaving behind a cold, calculating stillness.

"David," Julian whispered, the name tasting like ash on his tongue. "He promised to clean up the corruption in the municipal zoning commission. He ran on integrity."

"Integrity pays the bills during campaign season, Julian, but real power requires capital," Evelyn said, her voice devoid of any remaining warmth as she crossed her arms against the evening chill. "And you were standing in the way of our family’s rightful ascension. You refused to merge our real estate portfolio with the Vanguard group."

Marcus, realizing the tactical advantage had shifted away from him with the arrival of the heavily armed operatives, slowly took his hands out of his pockets. He cast a sharp, warning glance toward Evelyn.

"You talked too much, Evelyn," Marcus muttered under his breath, stepping backward toward his sedan. "We had an agreement. Clean execution, minimal friction."

"Shut up, Marcus," Evelyn snapped, her composure finally shattering into genuine panic as she saw the tactical officers smoothly unholster their sidearms and fan out across the gravel drive. "They don't have proof of the DA’s involvement! That transmission was intercepted outside our private network jurisdiction. It’s inadmissible!"

The lead tactical officer stepped forward, his boots crunching loudly on the gravel. He pressed a button on his radio receiver, and a crisp, amplified voice echoed across the quiet estate grounds.

“This is Director Vance of federal intelligence. Stand down, all units.”

The voice belonged to an entirely different Vance—not the corrupt district attorney, but the federal director of internal financial crimes, who had been secretly investigating the Vanguard syndicate for months.

Julian’s phone buzzed again. He glanced down at the screen. A new text message from an unknown encrypted number glowed brightly: “We have the DA in custody. Check your study safe now. The original ledger is inside.”

Julian looked up, locking eyes with Evelyn, who had turned completely ghost-white. The study safe—the one she had taunted him about just minutes earlier—contained the physical ledger detailing every bribe, every coerced signature, and every illegal land acquisition executed by her brother over the past decade.

"You told me the safe held my ruined finances," Julian said, his voice dropping to a terrifying deadpan as he turned on his heel and strode back into the grand foyer, leaving Marcus and Evelyn standing outside in the freezing wind.

He marched past the checkerboard marble floor, ignoring the echoing silence of the vaulted ceilings, and headed straight down the dimly lit hallway toward the master study. The heavy oak door of the study was ajar, a sliver of warm light spilling across the dark hardwood floors. As Julian pushed the door open, he saw someone standing by his mahogany desk—someone holding the physical leather-bound ledger in their hands.
