Chapter 12

With the first wave neutralized and the primary breach secured by the remaining bunker guards, Luka pushed forward into the smoking corridor, clearing the remaining angles with ruthless efficiency. Clara followed closely behind him, her weapon held at the ready, her protective maternal instincts shielding her from fear. They advanced toward the central communications hub where the security feeds indicated the main intruder had established a temporary command post. As they approached the heavy double doors of the hub, they found them blown open, smoke drifting lazily into the hallway.

Stepping through the shattered doorway, Luka and Clara found Viktor Vance cornered near the shattered server racks. Vance was a tall, imposing man with graying hair and cold, calculating eyes, holding a heavy submachine gun loosely in one hand while pressing a handkerchief against a bleeding shoulder wound. He looked up, his expression twisting into a cynical smirk as he saw Clara standing beside Luka. Vance mocked her, asking if she truly believed a dead criminal father and a hired shadow could protect her from the entire syndicate.

Luka stepped forward, placing himself directly between Vance and Clara, his weapon leveled squarely at Vance's chest. Luka stated coldly that the syndicate belonged to the future, not to men who ruled through indiscriminate violence and betrayal. Vance laughed bitterly, raising his weapon in a desperate, suicidal motion, intending to take them down with him. Before Vance could acquire his target, Clara stepped out from behind Luka's shoulder, raised her handgun with both hands, and fired a single, perfectly placed shot that struck Vance's weapon, shattering the receiver and sending it clattering across the floor.

Vance stared down at his empty, bleeding hands in absolute disbelief, realizing his reign had finally come to an end. Luka moved in with lightning speed, striking Vance across the temple with the heavy butt of his sidearm and sending the mercenary leader crashing unconscious to the concrete floor. The silence that followed was absolute, save for the hum of the backup servers. Clara lowered her weapon, her arms trembling slightly as the adrenaline finally began to recede, knowing that the immediate threat had been permanently eradicated.
