Chapter 7 - The Uninvited Guest

The corrugated metal doors of the warehouse shrieked as they were violently caved inward, folding like tin foil under the immense torque of a heavy vehicle. A sleek, high-end luxury sedan plowed straight through the wreckage, showering the concrete floor with glittering shards of safety glass and gray dust. The headlights cut blinding swathes through the damp, foggy air, pinning Marcus’s masked thugs in a blinding glare.
Julian clutched the crying infant tightly to his chest, backing away toward the shadows as the driver's side door of the sedan swung open.
A figure stepped out into the harsh light, dressed not in practical tactical gear, but in a ruined, mud-spattered strapless white wedding gown.
It was Victoria.
Her expensive veil was torn completely away, her blonde updo half-unraveled with loose strands clinging damply to her furious, tear-stained face. She held a heavy, antique hunting rifle—one she must have grabbed from her father's estate armory—aimed with unnerving steadiness directly at the catwalk above.
"Drop your weapons, Marcus," Victoria commanded, her voice ringing out with a cold, terrifying authority that instantly commanded the vast, empty space.
On the catwalk, Marcus stared down in utter disbelief, his mouth hanging open. "Victoria? What in God's name are you doing? Your father gave explicit orders to secure the perimeter and keep you out of this!"
"My father lied to me," Victoria spat, her eyes flashing with a fury that made her look more dangerous than any cartel enforcer. "He told me Julian ran off with a ghost. He told me the children were a fabricated stunt to ruin our merger. But I followed you, Marcus. And I saw what you animals were really planning to do in my city."
She racked the bolt of the heavy rifle with a crisp, mechanical snap that echoed off the warehouse walls.
"Step away from the little girl," Victoria ordered, swinging the barrel of the gun to track the thug holding Maya by the arm.
The thug hesitated, glancing nervously up toward Marcus for instructions. Marcus’s face twisted into an ugly sneer as he leaned over the railing.
"Shoot her," Marcus snarled to the men on the ground. "She's just a spoiled little girl playing dress-up. She doesn't have the stomach to pull that trigger."
Victoria didn't hesitate for a single microsecond. She pulled the trigger with a deafening roar that shook the dust from the rafters. The bullet smashed into the metal railing just an inch from Marcus’s hand, showering him in a cloud of sharp iron splinters.
Marcus shrieked, stumbling backward and falling heavily against the back wall of the catwalk.
Seizing the moment of chaos, the thug holding Maya released her arm in sheer panic. Maya didn't waste a second; she scrambled across the floor, running straight toward Julian, who dropped to one knee to scoop her into his free arm, keeping the baby pressed safely between them.
"Victoria..." Julian breathed, staring at his abandoned bride in profound shock. "Why are you doing this?"
Victoria kept the rifle raised, her chest heaving as she glared at Julian with a complex cocktail of hatred, betrayal, and lingering devotion.
"We'll talk about our ruined wedding later, Julian," Victoria snapped, her voice trembling slightly. "Right now, we need to get out of here before my father's private security battalion surrounds this entire district."
Suddenly, the red and blue flashing lights of a dozen police cruisers began to illuminate the broken windows of the warehouse from the outside, painting the entire room in an erratic, pulsing glow.

Marcus scrambled to his feet on the catwalk, pressing a radio to his collar. "Code red! The Feds are here! Flush the evidence and burn the building down!"
