Her voice was calm, precise, and devoid of any hesitation, commanding the room with the quiet authority of an expert witness presenting an airtight case.
"As you can see from the encrypted metadata," Elena explained, pointing to a series of highlighted ledger entries on the screen, "the drainage of capital began shortly after the tragic passing of David Vance five years ago. The funds were funneled through three primary shell entities registered overseas, systematically bypassing our internal compliance checkpoints by exploiting emergency executive overrides."
Marcus Vance stared at the screen, running a hand over his thinning hair. "We trusted her. The entire board trusted her. She presented quarterly reports that balanced down to the final decimal point."
"Because she was auditing her own crimes," Arthur added quietly, leaning forward with his hands clasped on the walnut table. "We built an empire on trust, ladies and gentlemen, but we forgot to verify. That era of complacency ends today."
A heavy silence settled over the boardroom. The realization of how close the company had come to total financial ruin—and how easily an outsider with a sharp eye and a smartphone had dismantled a multi-million-dollar conspiracy—humbled even the most arrogant executives in the room.
"What are your recommendations, Mr. Vance?" asked Sarah Sterling, the head of legal counsel, adjusting her glasses as she reviewed the downloaded audit summaries.
"Effective immediately, we are dissolving the private executive override protocols," Arthur stated firmly. "Every financial transaction, subsidiary transfer, and asset allocation will require dual-authorization signatures from both the chief executive officer and an independent compliance officer. Furthermore, I am officially appointing Elena as the Director of Internal Compliance and Risk Assessment."
Heads snapped up in surprise. Elena herself blinked, her professional composure momentarily faltering as she looked at Arthur in disbelief.
"Mr. Vance," Sarah Sterling interjected cautiously, "while Miss Elena’s investigative work last night was undeniably extraordinary, the position of Director of Internal Compliance typically requires a senior executive background and formal board certification."
"Miss Elena possesses something far more valuable than a framed certificate," Arthur replied, his gaze sweeping across the boardroom with unwavering conviction.
