Chapter 1 - The Breach of Authority

The sterile glare of the hospital room hummed overhead, casting a harsh fluorescent light over the cold metal table. Elena Vance stood rigidly by the reinforced steel door, her long dark-red silk dress catching the amber warning lights flickering above the lintel. Her blonde hair was pulled back into a severe knot, and her lips, painted a stark crimson, trembled slightly with suppressed fury. She pointed a manicured finger toward the threshold, her voice cutting through the heavy silence like broken glass.

"Get him out!" Elena screamed, her chest heaving as she glared at the older man standing in the center of the room.

Arthur Geoliter didn’t flinch. At sixty, his tall frame was weathered by decades of hard command, his white hair cropped close, contrasting sharply with his dark shirt and worn brown jacket. He locked eyes with Elena, ignoring the armed Hispanic police officer standing alert near the medical cart.

"You don't have the authority to clear this wing, Elena," Arthur said, his voice a low, gravelly rumble that filled the sterile space.

"I am the director of this facility!" Elena shouted, taking a sharp step forward before halting as Arthur moved toward the table. "That boy is carrying a Class-A pathogen. If he leaves this quarantine zone, the city dies!"

"The city is already exposed," Arthur replied coldly.

With deliberate slowness, Arthur reached into his brown jacket and pulled out a worn leather wallet bearing a gold federal shield. He laid it flat on the metal table, right beside a polished brass nameplate that read: Geoliter.

Elena stared at the badge, her eyes widening in sudden, unadulterated panic. She crossed her arms tightly over her chest, stepping back until her spine hit the reinforced door. The sight of that specific badge drained every trace of color from her face.

Arthur turned his head slowly, locking his gaze onto hers with a look so intensely cold and threatening that the air in the room seemed to freeze.

"This is a military quarantine," Arthur said sternly.

"You can't take him," Elena whispered, her voice cracking as the sirens outside began to wail louder. "He's my son."
