Chapter 9: The Breakout in the Dark

The dancing blue light from the swimming pool cast long, jittery shadows against the stone pillars as Julian kept his eyes locked on Marcus and Victoria. The attorney took another measured step forward, his polished shoes clicking softly on the patio tiles, entirely unaware that the man he thought he had cornered was preparing a desperate counter-strike.
"Hand over the child, Julian," Marcus commanded, his tone dripping with arrogant certainty. "There is nowhere left to run. Your digital kingdom has fallen."
"Now, Elena!" Julian roared at the top of his lungs.
In a blur of motion, Elena spun around toward the outdoor stone fireplace. Her hands wrapped desperately around the heavy wrought-iron poker resting against the hearth. With a primal scream born of pure adrenaline and sheer terror, she swung the heavy iron rod with all her might directly into the glass-fronted utility box embedded in the exterior wall of the mansion.
CRASH!
A shower of blinding white sparks erupted into the humid night air as the master circuit board shattered under the impact. The sudden short-circuit instantly cut the automated smart home lockdown, plunging the entire estate into a deep, pitch-black silence. The eerie hum of the perimeter generator died instantly, and even the pulsing red indicator light on the security camera flickered once and went completely dark.
"What the hell?!" Marcus shouted, stumbling backward as the sudden darkness disoriented him. "Grab them! Don't let them reach the service gate!"
Victoria shrieked in frustration, lunging forward through the dark toward Elena, but the wet tiles betrayed her footing. She slipped hard, crashing down onto her knees with a sharp cry of pain as her silk dress tore against the rough stone.
Julian didn't hesitate for a single second. Cradling the infant tightly against his grey-shirted chest, he sprinted past the stumbling attorney into the dense shadows of the overgrown garden path leading away from the pool deck.
"Elena, keep moving!" Julian yelled over his shoulder, his heart pounding a frantic rhythm against his ribs.
May you like
Elena dropped the iron poker and sprinted right behind him, her wet maid uniform slapping against her legs as they navigated the familiar twists and turns of the mansion's rear landscaping. Behind them, the harsh beam of a secondary flashlight cut through the dark as Marcus recovered his footing and began pursuing them with heavy, rapid footsteps.
"You can't hide forever, Julian!" Marcus’s voice echoed angrily through the garden hedges. "The entire neighborhood is private property! You won't make it to the main road!"
