Chapter 1: The Accusation Beneath the Red Indicator Light

The damp fabric of the maid uniform clung coldly to Elena’s knees as the manicured poolside tiles bit into her skin. Water from the illuminated blue pool shimmered against the dark patio stones, casting eerie, dancing reflections across the faces of the people she had served for two agonizing years. A few feet away, Julian stood rigidly in his grey shirt, cradling the small, white-wrapped bundle of the infant against his chest with a look of profound, troubled hesitation. Across from them, Victoria stepped forward, the emerald green silk of her one-shoulder dress rustling sharply in the cool night air. Her expression was a mask of cold, calculated fury.

"She was trying to take the baby," Victoria shouted, her voice cutting through the humid night like broken glass. "I saw her with my own eyes, Julian! She had her hands right on the blanket, pulling the child toward the deep end!"

Elena choked back a sob, pressing her wet palms against the cold ground as hot tears tracked through the dust on her cheeks. "No, no! You have to believe me!" she pleaded, her voice cracking with a raw, desperate agony that seemed to bounce off the surrounding glass walls of the luxury mansion. "I heard a noise by the water. I ran out here to save him. I swear to God, I was only trying to protect your son from the edge!"

"Save him?" Victoria mocked, her eyes narrowing into dangerous slits as she pointed a manicured finger directly at Elena’s chest. "You thought you could slip away in the dark, didn't you? You thought nobody was watching from the upstairs terrace!"

Julian looked down at the infant in his arms, his brow furrowed deeply as uncertainty flickered across his pale features. "Elena, is this true? Were you... were you running away?"

"No! Look at me!" Elena cried out, shaking her head violently as she gasped for air. "I would never hurt this baby! You know my heart, Julian!"

Victoria stepped closer, her voice dropping to a venomous whisper. "Shut your mouth. You’re done here."

Elena raised a trembling hand, pointing desperately upward toward the corner of the house where a small security device blinked with an unrelenting crimson glow. "The camera!" she gasped. "Check the camera!"

Julian slowly turned his head to look up at the blinking red light, but Victoria instantly blocked his line of sight, her expression turning deathly pale as she whispered, "Don't listen to her, Julian—the system was offline for maintenance tonight."
