Chapter 14: The Final Confrontation at the Cabin Door

The heavy, aggressive pounding against the front door of the rustic cabin made the wooden floorboards vibrate. Mateo instantly grabbed a heavy iron fireplace poker, stepping defensively in front of the doorway, while Elena rushed over to the side window, cautiously peering through the dusty glass slats out into the dark clearing.
"They found us," Elena whispered, her voice tight with panic. Two black luxury SUVs with tinted windows and disabled headlights were parked blocking the dirt driveway, their engines rumbling softly in the night air.
Marcus stepped out from the lead vehicle, flanked by two burly private security contractors dressed in tactical gear. He didn't look frantic anymore; his face was a mask of cold, calculating fury as he walked deliberately up the wooden steps of the porch.
On the phone line held tightly to Julian’s ear, a sharp, professional voice finally broke through the static. "Federal Bureau of Investigation, Cybercrimes and Financial Division. State your emergency."
Julian stood up from the armchair, holding the baby securely with one arm while lifting the heavy black receiver to his mouth. "My name is Julian Sterling," he spoke clearly and forcefully into the analog mouthpiece. "I am reporting a corporate conspiracy, premeditated attempted murder, and severe data extortion originating from my residence at 4400 Sterling Crest Drive."
"Sir, please verify your location and current status," the federal agent replied instantly.
Before Julian could answer, the front door of the cabin splintered with a deafening crash as Marcus kicked it violently open. The heavy wooden bolt shattered, sending wood splinters flying across the living room. Marcus stepped over the threshold, his eyes wild with desperate rage, pointing a sleek corporate legal document like a weapon.
"Hang up that phone, Julian!" Marcus roared, taking a threatening step forward into the room. "You can't call your way out of bankruptcy and scandal! The SEC and the local police are already prepped to arrest you for child abandonment and corporate fraud as soon as we step foot off this property!"
The two tactical security guards moved in behind Marcus, blocking the only exit from the cabin. Mateo raised the iron poker, stepping in front of Julian, but Marcus simply gestured to the guards, who unholstered non-lethal restraint stun batons with a sharp hiss of electricity.

Julian didn't flinch. He didn't drop the receiver. He held the black heavy phone up high, letting the federal dispatcher on the other end hear every single word echoing through the room.
"My location is the cabin at Blackwood Ridge, State Park sector four," Julian spoke loudly and clearly into the phone, his eyes locked dead on Marcus’s terrified, sweating face. "And my attackers are standing right here in front of me."
