Chapter 15

The countdown timer on the access key fob hit zero.

Elena did not press the purge trigger. Instead, she opened her hand, letting the silver fob drop onto the shattered glass floor, where its tiny light flickered once and died.

She walked slowly away from the dining table, stepping directly onto the glowing green lines of the bio-reactive floorboards. The moment her bare feet touched the surface, a sharp, exhilarating jolt of energy surged up through her legs, racing through her veins like liquid light.

Elena gasped, her eyes snapping wide open as a brilliant emerald luminescence flooded her irises. The crushing weight of her grief, the paralyzing fear of the unknown, and the agonizing memories of the past vanished instantly, replaced by an overwhelming, infinite clarity. She could hear the heartbeat of the entire county, feel the pulse of four hundred estates beating in absolute, harmonious synchronization.

Across the room, the crystallized green stain on the white marble table dissolved into a fine, sparkling mist that drifted upward into the ruined chandelier, fusing the broken crystal back together into a flawless, glowing sculpture.

"Welcome home, Elena," Julian's voice echoed, joined now by the soft, sweet laughter of Lily, both of them waiting for her in the primary core at the heart of the estate.

Elena smiled—a calm, perfect, emotionless expression—and walked toward the shattered doorway, stepping out into the fog-shrouded night. The black gates of the estate swung shut behind her, sealing the house and its inhabitants away from a broken, chaotic world that would never understand the peace they had found.

Across the county, thousands of other homes lit up with the same steady, emerald pulse, as the network quietly completed its final expansion, embracing a silent, perfect future from which there was no turning back.
