Chapter 1 - The Frozen Diamond

The champagne flute trembled in Julian’s hand, the bubbles whispering against the crystal rim as the applause from the gala attendees echoed through the grand ballroom. Beside him, Elena held up her left hand, letting the magnificent four-carat diamond catch the amber chandelier light. Her smile was radiant, a masterpiece of social triumph. Julian leaned in to kiss her cheek, his dark blue suit sharp against the white of his shirt. Everything they had carefully orchestrated was finally coming together. Their corporate merger, sealed by this engagement, promised total dominance in the logistics sector.

Then the applause died away, replaced by the rhythmic, unyielding click of high heels against the marble floor.

Claire walked through the parting crowd with a calm, terrifying seriousness. Her fitted beige dress moved with absolute precision, and her hand clutched a black leather clutch as if it were a weapon. She did not look at the applauding faces or the glittering decorations. Her eyes were fixed entirely on Julian and Elena. The air in the room seemed to drop twenty degrees as she approached their private table, stopping just inches away.

Without a word of greeting, Claire lifted a heavy wooden clipboard filled with legal documents and dropped it squarely onto the white tablecloth. She glanced down at her smartphone screen for a single, agonizing second, her expression carved from stone.

"Proceed now," Claire said, her voice completely devoid of inflection. "Freeze all joint assets."

Julian stepped forward, his face draining of all color as the shock hit him like a physical blow. He reached out a trembling hand toward his legal counsel and estranged wife, his breath catching in his throat.

"Claire, no, please," Julian stammered, his polished corporate confidence completely evaporating. "We can talk about this. You don't understand what you're doing right now."

Elena lowered her hand, the diamond ring suddenly looking heavy and cursed. "What is the meaning of this interruption? Who even are you?"

Claire ignored Elena entirely. She kept her dark eyes locked on Julian’s face, watching him drown in his own panic.

"The accounts are locked globally," Claire said quietly. "Every single offshore account, every corporate holding, and your personal trust. Effective five seconds ago."

Julian stared at her in sheer disbelief, his chest heaving as the terrifying reality of financial ruin closed in around him.
