Chapter 6: The Digital Reckoning**

The lock turned with a heavy, satisfying mechanical click.

Instantly, the monitors in the room lit up with cascades of green data streams. Bank account transfers, offshore registry documents, recorded wiretaps, and photographic evidence of human rights violations began decrypting and uploading at staggering speeds.

Across the globe, the impact was instantaneous. On the wall-mounted news screens, breaking news tickers started flashing:

* *LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE SUSPENDS VANGUARD TRADING.*
* *FRENCH AUTHORITIES ISSUE WARRANTS FOR SEVEN CORPORATE EXECUTIVES.*
* *SWISS POLICE RAID PRIVATE ASSET MANAGEMENT FIRMS.*

"Upload at 84%," an analyst shouted.

Suddenly, the overhead lights flickered and died, replaced by the dull red glow of emergency backup power. The building’s air filtration system shut down with a dying groan.

"They've breached the perimeter substation," Marcus called out, racking the slide of an old pistol. "They cut the grid. They're coming down the elevator shafts."

"We need ninety seconds!" Vance yelled, typing frantically on a bypass terminal.

Camille stood by the server pillar, watching the progress bar crawl from 89% to 92%. She could hear the muffled pop of smoke grenades from the lobby above, followed by the heavy thud of tactical boots against the stairwell doors.

She didn't run. She stood guard over the glowing terminal, placing both palms against the warm glass of the monitor.

*“Hold the line, little bird,”* she told herself.

At 99%, the heavy steel doors to the server room shuddered as a hydraulic breaching ram struck the hinges.

100%. *TRANSFER COMPLETE.*

"Drive wiped!" Vance yelled, slamming a magnetic degausser against the master drive. "To the maintenance tunnels! Move!"
